OK, so we weren’t sitting next to each other and there was no Kiss Cam involved… but wouldn’t that have been cute?
This story is from Amy, a 27-year-old marketing associate in Washington, DC, as told to Raz:
Zack and I met at a baseball game. He was cute and funny, but was about four years younger than me, which I normally would never go for. After the game, when he invited me over for dinner, I decided to bite the bullet and do it. After all, no use in missing out on a great guy just because he’s young and potentially immature, right?
I showed up to his apartment on a Thursday night with a bottle of wine in tow. “Great,” he said when I handed it over. “My friends drink a lot.”
Turns out, this wasn’t the romantic dinner for two I had envisioned. His friends showed up shortly after, and he was right, they did drink a lot. Feeling uncomfortable about the whole situation, I joined in, and was pretty wasted by the end of the evening. But I actually had a lot of fun goofing off with the crowd and playing drinking games. Somehow, after the others had left, I ended up in Zack’s bed, and we had amazing sex.
He asked me to stay over. “But I have some friends coming into town early tomorrow, so we may have to be up early,” he said.
“OK,” I said, drifting off.
“Also,” he added. “One of those friends is my ex-girlfriend, and I really want to get back together with her, so you have to be out by the time she gets here.”
“Mm hmm,” I said as I passed out.
It wasn’t until the next morning that what he said fully resonated, and I reamed him out like the child that he was. You do NOT ask women on dates—let alone have sex with them—if your grand plan is to reunite with your ex the next day! He looked like a sad, scared puppy as I left, dragging my hungover ass to work. After that, I stuck to my guns, and I haven’t dated a younger man since.
